Cliqtives
My role
Logo Design
Ui For App
Summary
A discussion forum for creatives as well as a platform to customise users profile. The platform is still in a developing phase, and this is the journal of my work thus far.
PROblem statement
Design Process
There are numerous discussion forums and social media platforms for all types of users. The topic of creativity seems to be falling behind with regards to building a community and strengthen the engagement between 2 or more creative individuals. There are no platforms that seek to provide solutions to combine a discussion forum and social media together. There is a need to have a platform that caters to a specific group, the creative people. A platform where they can build a community, collaboration and have a meaningful engagement.
User Perspective
Questions need to be asked here; Do users need the platform to be "Creative"? Creative has a different definition in terms of design, artist, musicians and so on. Research should include how to categorise these "Creatives"?

Technical Perspective
Categorisation. Similar to the user's perspective, what kind of categories are available under creative? What can users find and how do users navigate through these forums and posting on a specific forum related to their topic?

Design Perspective
Design elements and themes should be considered. How can the design of the platform represent the general overview of creative?

The Logo
Cliqtives is formed by using two words, "Click" and "Creatives". The two words were fusioned to represent a one-stop platform where all arts and creative individuals, as well as creative sectors, are able to visit, learn insights, share discussion through forums and customise their own profiles. The inspiration of the logo was taken by the stationery used for art purposes and the complementary colour theory was utilised to represent monochromatic and sleek looking.

The Issue
From my research, there are numerous discussion forums and applications available in the App Store and play store. There are also categories in each of these platforms that specifically catered to creative. It will be good to have a solo forum catered towards creative users, personalised their own profile and finding the right forum within the subject of creative
Incorporating ideas
Incorporating ideas start from a basic suggestion to solve an issue. While branching out ideas, there will be numerous suggestions that help to correlate with each other. A discussion forum to create a community in the creative industry was the initial step. But what other offers can the platform provide? A job forum? A design agency? A platform where users can showcase portfolio?
Each of these ideas was soon scrapped off as it can be either; Not align with the objective of the platform or it provides too many services that other existing platforms have already provided. Job forums like Cultjobs exist to create a platform where creative users can find jobs in the creative field. There are numerous design and digital marketing agencies out there and it will act as a competitor, so it will not align with the objective of the platform. A portfolio site? There are numerous platforms where users can display their work such as Behance and Dribbble. Also, a musician is able to upload their work on YouTube. Designers can create a free website using Wordpress or WIX to showcase their artwork. The finalised idea is to look back at previous social media platforms. One of them was Friendster.
Borrow The Idea From Friendster
Remember the days before Facebook? Myspace, tagged and Friendster was a hit. Friendster came into mind as I remembered I was able to customise my own profile and design whatever I like it using HTML codes. It was the time when I started having an interest in web design. Little did I know while developing Cliqtives, I realised Friendster was way ahead of its time for programming-enthusiasts. I decided to inculcate this idea by letting users customise their own profile and expanding their creativity.

So there are 2 key selling points for Cliqtives;
A discussion forum + Profile customisation
Customising Users profile
Profile.png
One of the key selling points of this platform is that users are able to customise their own profile. This will engage their creativity in designing the profile to their liking. Such interactivity will help to expand the user's engagement towards the platform.
View Other users
Like any other social media, users are able to view their connections' profile or view non-connections' profile subjected to privacy settings. They are also able to look at how other users design their own profile.

Filtering & Categorising
IMG_1522.PNG
In order to understand filtering, researches were made in various job portals. This is due to their extensive categorisation of different industries and job specialisation. This particular example was from JobStreet which categorises different categories and grouping them into one. For example, marketing, PR, advertising jobs can be found under Arts/Media/Communication as well as media-related jobs like photographers, videographers are included.
Therefore, by using such a strategy, the category of Creative will need to branch out. This is to ensure each of the creative individuals will have their own space and forum within their own specialisation and connect with each other through similar skill sets and passion.

Is the problem solved?
To answer a question is the problem solved for a solution that seemed rather ambiguous, Cliqtives seeks to provide a connection between two creative individuals. A guitarist will most likely try to find another guitarist for collaboration through skill-based searches in the platform.

Did I Solve it?
As mentioned, this is an ambiguous platform. The 2 key selling points of this platform are Discussion forums and customising users profile. Other than that, it performs similarly to any other social media platforms. Except, it does not provide a platform where users are able to showcase their artwork. For this, they have the option to link their portfolios either their own individual websites or through platforms such as Behance or Dribbble.

Cliqtives seeks to explore the minds of the creatives of, being creative and be engaged in the community of creative. Customising profiles act as a way where users can explore their creativity and design their own profile and they can seek forums should they need to find certain answers or sharing answers.
reflection
While designing this platform, I had made extensive research from studying existing discussion forums, try to relate to the topic of creativity and find other creative platforms where users can publish their own work. Initially, the platform was to instil a job forum, however, after much consideration, it feels like the platform is way out of purpose, as the objective is to create a community and be engaged. A lot of ideas were being scrapped while producing such work, like having the option for providing digital marketing services. Such ideas will definitely stray the purpose of Cliqtives. My reflection on this is to understand what is missing from this industry and what can I do to help the community. The takeaway is, always focus on my objective while building such a platform.
